The flame of art patronage has been alight in Montpellier ever since the time of François-Xavier Fabre who founded the museum in 1825. The reopening of the Musée Fabre, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, in February 2007,after restoration and extension work, was met with unprecedented success for this unique venue, notably in the business world. The Musée Fabre Business Foundation was created in 2008 and its aim is to purchase works of art for the museum, participate in the production of temporary exhibitions and contribute to large restoration projects for objects and paintings from the permanent collections. Today, there are 25 member companies who believe in the long term value of supporting this cultural institution.
Ever since its creation the Business Foundation has greatly contributed to the development of the Musée Fabre collections under the presidence of Mr Gérard Maurice, Regional Director of Vinci Construction in the Languedoc-Roussillon. In recognition of his leading role as president of the Business Foundation, Mr Gérard Maurice was personally awarded the medalGrand mécène de la culture(Very Important Patron of Culture) from the Minister of Culture and Communication on March 23rd, 2012.
Following the sad loss of Mr Gérard Maurice in April 2014, Mr Max Ponseillé, Chief Executive Officer of Groupe Oc Santé, was elected President of the Musée Fabre Business Foundation on June 17th 2014.

The Friends of the Musée Fabre association aims to promote the museum and, more generally, to promote art in all its diversity.
The association plays an active role supporting the museum and also as a veritable partner in the dynamic cultural life of Montpellier and its region. It is a member of the French Federation of Societies of Museum Friends whose aim is act as a recognised interlocutor with public bodies.
It participates in the enrichment of the museum's collections through the donation of artworks or contribution to purchase funds. Its activities are open to all those who, familiar or not with art, wish to deepen or expand their knowledge of this subject. There are organised visits to the Musée Fabre's collections and temporary exhibitions, programmes of talks and conferences about the arts, visits to museums in France and other countries, visits to painters studios and the organisation of an 'arts café'.
All activities are organised by member volunteers from the association who come many different backgrounds. Through their direct involvement in these events members become players in the art scene and citizens engaged in cultural politics.
