Bernin Room

The devotional fervour unique to Italian and Spanish art of the 17th century can be seen in this room. The paintings by Cavalino, Glielmo and Zurbaran are marked by the heritage of Caravaggesque realism, or elsewhere, Carlo Dolci in Florence, Sassoferato and Guido Reni in Bologna remained faithful to the idealised tradition inherited from the Renaissance. The painting by Antoine Rivalz, an artist from Toulouse, evokes 'The Immaculate Conception'; one of the key themes of Catholic religion of the time.
