Zurbarán Room

This room displays a collection of Italian landscapes from the 17th century, featuring the painters Mola, Salvatore Rose, Reschi and Peruzzini. In contrast to French classical landscape art of this period centred on Poussin and Claude Lorrain, these artists offer us a tumultuous and tormented vision of nature which could almost be described as romantic. With its similar treatment of colour 'The Martydom of Saint Cecilia', by an anonymous painter, is remarkable for its compositional rigour.
